Description The SWAN Cycle III wave model, version 40.41, version 40.72 Spatial resolution = 0.0333 degrees (2min both in longitude and latitude) Wind forcing: ECMWF and NCEP/NCAR global reanalysis Grid: spherical grid (33X64 grid points, about 1000 output sea points) Integrated parameters and total sea and swell spectra output are obtained at every hour. Bathymetry: database for the western shelf with about 4 km resolution. The SWAN model is nested into the WAM model. The external boundary conditions are set in terms of significant wave height, mean wave period, and mean wave direction. Coverage Western shelf of the Black Sea: grid from 27.5E to 28.5E and from 41.5N to 43.5? (33X64 grid points). Validation The model is validated against measurements taken by non-directional sensor deployed on a fixed gas exploration platform “Galata” situated in the northern part of the western shelf (43.04N, 28.19E) about 25 km off cape Galata in the depth of about 35 m. Implementation Hindcast Time span: 01/01/1948 – 30/06/2009 Wave regimes: wind sea, swell Wave output parameters for wind sea, swell and total sea Hs – significant wave height Tm – mean wave period Tp – peak wave period Theta – mean wave angle Power spectrum Directional spectrum
